NO GOOD REASON TO CELEBRATE WEINSTEIN'S NEW YORK CONVICTIONS

The CBC is full on celebrating #metoo after Weinstein's sexual assault convictions in New York and giving voice -- at taxpayers' expense -- to feminist academics who are likewise celebrating the convictions. The CBC and misandrist feminists are as they so often do, equating sexual assault and sexual harassment as if there is any comparison between brutal and violent gang rape and a group of men wolf whistling a beautiful woman they see walking down the street wearing the shortest of skirts.

A CBC guest "expert" went so far as to decry and condemn the 1980's as a party culture time and openly ponder whether women and men are able to work together. One can only guess at what her conclusion is and what her solutions is. Because men may say things or may look at women too long and make a few high strung women feel uncomfortable will she and her puritanical feminist cohorts eventually seek to ban all men from the workplace?

When women entered the work force en-mass in the late 70's, 80's and early 90's they did so proclaiming that they were as capable, intelligent, strong-willed, determined and strong as men. Anything men could do they could do or do better. Boomer males happily took these young women at their word and hired them in preference to male job seekers who were sent to the back of the employment bus. Addressing the historical oppression of women and redressing past wrongs they called it. Affirmative action they called it.

Hot young 20 somethings in their workplaces with hardly any male peers their own age. What was not to like for the male boomers?

Now 20 to 40 years later come the sexual harassment and sexual assault class action lawsuits against the governments, corporations, and company owners who hired the strong and capable young women. And the lawsuits against the few near same age male colleagues who managed to find employment in the same workplaces the women did who had who attempted to be sexual with the women or said sexually suggestive things. And the more well-founded sexual harassment law suits against the boomer men who were in positions of authority to the women when they were young and attempted to get young women to be sexual with the men or said sexually suggestive things to them. And the even more well-founded lawsuits against men in actual positions of power who required sexual favours from the women.

Rather than being strong-willed, determined and strong as had been proclaimed, the women were vulnerable because they were adults in law and appearance only. Being women they were incapable of withstanding the men's pressure, words and stares and succumbed into sexual relationships they didn't want, or in the case of the words and stares crumpled like petunias being stepped on into a of mess of depression, sadness, fear and insecurity.

Sometimes the oppressed young women even quit their jobs and got work in other government departments or big corporations. They did so while their male gen-X peers either grappled with unemployment and homelessness or started their own businesses creating a new field based on personal computers and the subsequently made available for the masses of personal computers owners new thing called the internet.

#metoo

No where is there discussion of compensation for the gen-x and early millenial men who were placed in the back of the employment bus so the "horrible historical opression of women" could be addressed, and had to endure unemployment, under-employment, poverty and precarious life conditions as result. Nor is their discussion of compensation for the parents of this generation of wasted men who lived and died without grandchildren because women just didn't want to get with men who earned significantly less than they did

With the sheer number of allegations against him Weinstein may well be guilty of some pretty heinous crimes. Or he may not -- there are lawsuits against him for significant sums of money. Whatever the truth may be, the cases for which Weinstein was convicted are dubious. After the alleged sexual assaults and rapes the complaint women continued in personal and professional relationships with Weinstein. One of the complainants even spoke glowingly of him and talked about him being her soul mate.

"Rape myths" the prosecutors explained to the jury. Not all victimized women go to the hospital for treatment or file complaints with the police as soon as they can after they are attacked. Not all victimized women end contact with their assailant.

This may well be true. Weinstein is by all appearance a rich, entitled ashhole with the deep pockets one needs to be able to hire the best lawyers in the land. Unfortunately, Weinstein is not the typical American or Canadian male, far from it. And unfortunately, the new theories that led the jury to convict him open the door for many more prosecutions against men, most of whom will not have the financial resources to hire the lawyers with the skills and resources necessary to be able to mount the quality defence Weinstein and his lawyers could.

Expect more jailings of men -- they are already criminalized more than an order of magnitude more often than the fairer sex -- more homelessness of men, more men being addicted to intoxicants, and an increase in the suicide gap, which already runs at more than 3 X that of women. Yeah, feminism and feminist legal theories. #Metoo whohoo! It's only justice right?

A drunk man and drunk woman have sex. Under the new feminist legal theories the woman can't give consent to the act while impaired so she is a victim of rape and the drunk man is a rapist. Sounds fair!

1 in 3 American men between 18 and 34 in the US are unemployed, underemployed, living below at or near the poverty level, or thanks to criminalization, unemployable. Men in Canada die on average nearly five years younger than women, and are more likely to be unemployed and engaging in substance abuse. For men, in Canada and the US, it seems that if present trends continue, things for men -- millennials and gen-Z/Zoomers especially -- will only get worse.

#Metoo whohoo! It's only justice right?

What could possibly go wrong?

ADDENDUM  Weinstein, 68 was operated on for a blocked artery following his conviction. He is serving a 23 year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault in maximum-security Wende Correctional Facility near Buffalo, New York, and has tested positive for covid-19. He is facing charges for rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles but the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the operations of California courthouses. Weinstein's lawyers are appealing his convictions.

ADDENDUM  Prior to the covid-19 1 in 3 American men between 18 and 34 in the US are unemployed, underemployed, living below at or near the poverty level, or thanks to criminalization, unemployable. Things are much worse now -- for both sexes -- with more than 6.5 million unemployment insurance applications being filed in the last week, people doing car horn protests in front of the mansion of the Mayor of Los Angeles and the now unemployed talking about general strikes and rent and credit card payment strikes.
