SASKATCHEWAN BOARD GAME EARNS HIGH PRAISE FROM NATIONAL US PARENTING ORGANIZATION

SASKATOON- Pentagonia: a board game that was created and designed in Saskatoon, has received The National Parenting Center's 2001 Seal of Approval award, one of eight games to receive the honour this August.

On their web site at http://www.tnpc.com/soa/fal01games.html, which receives around 175,000 hits per month, The National Parenting Center describes Pentagonia as a game that "features the skill and cunning of chess and the ease of checkers," which "offers a very competitive experience and is one you'll want to pull out again and again."

The National Parenting Center is dedicated to providing parents with comprehensive and responsible guidance from the world's most renowned child-rearing authorities. It runs the Seal of Approval awards program, under which a staff of volunteer parents, children, and educators judges a variety of products introduced and marketed to the parent/child consumer market. Evaluated are the product's level of desirability (game play), the interactive stimulation it provides, and sturdiness. Test results are based on both statistical averaging and comments received from the parent/testers.

In fact, this is the second time the Saskatchewan game has received international recognition. The year it was introduced to the market - 1999 - Pentagonia was one of eight games selected by a team of Game-Review writing students at Rutgers University for inclusion in their annual Most Enjoyed Games list.

Other games to receive The National Parenting Center's 2001 Seal of Approval award included USAopoly's Scrabble Jr. Wildlife Edition and Monopoly, Astronomy Edition: Patch Products Incorporated's TriBond Jr.; Cadaco's Jumble; Out of the Box Publishing's Blink and My Word Junior, and Chuckle Games Incorporated's Brain Storm.

PENTAGONIA is presently sold in game and gift stores in four Canadian provinces and more than fifteen US states, at HBC department stores in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and in US catalogs like Educators Outlet and Terrific Toys. It retails for $25.00. A java computer demonstration program also provides free play from our company website at http://www.pentagonia.ca.

PENTAGONIA: THE GAME ONLINE VERSION RELEASED

SASKTOON - Prairie West Software and Saskatchewan Internet News Ltd. are pleased to announce the completion of an online version of the Pentagonia board game. This online game will allow visitors to any web site on which the program is installed to play the Saskatchewan-created strategy game Pentagonia.

"The program has beginner, intermediate and expert skill levels, sound, and a variety of features and options," said game programmer Todd Trann.

"The game's inventor seems to have little difficulty beating it at the expert level, but it will prove to be very competitive for those who are just learning to play the game," Todd explained. "It is really quite addictive."

"We're very excited. The program is fun to play and it could really help introduce people to Pentagonia," said Saskatchewan Internet News Ltd. president, Jacob Zunti.

Saskatchewan Internet News Ltd. plans to make the program available for free to all stores that carry Pentagonia: The Board Game, and also all educational institutions that purchase the board game, for inclusion on their web sites.

"This could be a very effective way for web site owners to create repeat visitor traffic," Zunti added. He went on to explain, "once we get a delivery system in place, people will also be able to purchase the program for a nominal sum, and install it on their own computers to play at home."

Pentagonia: The Board Game was released in 1998. It is now sold in stores in three provinces and more than 14 US states, and through a number of US catalogs, including Terrific Toys and Educators Outlet. In December of 1999, it was also one of eight games to be included on a Most Enjoyed Games list compiled by students at Rutger's University in New Jersey.

Pentagonia can be played online at: www.jokesandgames.org/pentagonia.

PRINCETON PUBLICATION PLUGS PENTAGONIA

SASKATOON- Saskatchewan Internet News Ltd., the makers and global distributors of "Pentagonia: The Board Game," and the "Pentagonia Computer Demonstration Program" has just learned that the Princeton Packet listed Pentagonia in its Last Minute Gift Buying Guide, where it was one of eight new game offerings that were Most Enjoyed by renowned toy consultant Ruth B. Roufberg, and her team of game-testing students at the Rutgers University Academy for Life-long Learning. Nearly 50 games were evaluated this year.

In her Dec. 7, 1999 article entitled "Grown-Up Gifts That Pass the Test: Games that won't leave you bored," Ms. Roufberg outlined the characteristics of a game that serve to create the best casual play. She then went on to devote a paragraph description to each game that made the Most Enjoyed list - except Pentagonia, and Apples to Apples, which each received two paragraphs of attention. Pentagonia was described as "an appealing variation of the classic game of Mill."

A number of the games on the MOST ENJOYED list, including Pentagonia, are capable of being played by children. "Don't be deterred," said Roufberg; "although they are playable by children, the games are not childish. All the testers were adults."

The Princeton Packet has a paid circulation of around 70,000 persons in central New Jersey, and has been in business since the late 1700's.

PENTAGONIA is now sold in better game and gift stores in three Western Canadian provinces and five US states, and has generated on-line sales from customers in ten states. A web based contest at http://www.pentagonia.ca is presently giving away a Pentagonia: The Game Win 95/98 computer demonstration program per day.
